Charitable expense-mileage

I have always wondered if you can claim mileage driving to and from chuch for volunteer work.

Good example on page 4-17. Also other good examples of sometimes overlooked deductions.

I have always taken a deduction for my/my husband's mileage to choir practice and church board meeting. I DO NOT take mileage deductions to worship services where my husband sings in the choir. I follow the guideline that we go to church for primarily personal pleasure on Sunday morning, not for charitable work, even though my husband is singing and I might be assisting in children's Sunday school. If there is an element of personal pleasure (i.e., the worship service), there is no deduction. JMHO.
