    My policy is the same as JohnH

    I will hold a check, postdated or not, only for long time clients that I know to be decent people. I will hold it until the date of the refund deposit into their account. Oh yeah, only if they direct deposit the refund. No refund, they better be really faithful clients and I have held the check until payday, but NEVER for a new client or flaky clients, they get the fees withheld from their refund by Chase bank.

      Sue, forget about 2005. They didn't work on it then, why would anyone think they will be working on it now? Most likely they didn't expect a refund for that year or they would have filed then.

      Concentrate on collecting the check on the basis of "they owe you and need to pay." You did not sign on to participate in all their financial woes and the history that got them there.
