Our adult son, whom we do not claim but whose taxes I do, got a "full ride" to grad school. We just got a W2 showing his stipend, but attached to it is a form showing school charges and "gift aid" of $17,700.00 (not the same as the stipend) which covered all charges. The instructions say that he MAY be eligible for one of the above credits/deductions but that the school will not give tax advice? Huh? How do I know which one (or both)? THANKS!
