I'm doing a part year KY return for a active military person,(this is part of the home office post earlier). How do I exclude military pay from the 740-NP? Here in Michigan we have a line on our form to do that, I read the KY instructions but really couldn't find any thing about it. Any help here would be very welcome.

Part Year Kentucky
has a Sch D that lists all income in col A and Kentucky income in col B. then it does a % Both amounts carry to the front of the 740-NP but tax is only figured on the KY amount. It's pretty easy to follow if you have the form. Kentucky has a separate form for part year residents and non residents. I know some states figure on the same form as residents but not KY. Use the 740-NP

Thanks
Bonnie, I don't have to include an explanation or anything? I just love it when I get new clients, but I have spent more hours on this one than I dare charge for. I figure it is not my clients fault that I have little experience with out of state returns. I have another one a couple more down the pile from the state of Mass. Can't wait to see what fresh new He** awaits me there.

Kentucky does require a copy of the federal return be sent with the state return but no explanation. Everything is pretty self explanatory on the Sch D. All income is listed line by line. Wages all in one catagory. Part year has to be mailed in. It can't be Efiled. Some state do efile part year returns but KY does not. Attach a copy of the W-2's that have KY income and withholdings.
