    Stimulus rebate -17 year old

Parents don't get $300 for 17 year old, but 17 year made over $3000. Can he file a stimulus return to get his $300? He would have to mark "someone else's dependent", does that knock him out? Coffee shop talk caused calls to me, 17 year not filing because no w/h, but parents want to know if he should file anyway. Some guy told him that he should and will get the $300 that way. Kind of confusing.
