I lost my last 2 yrs tax returns...

A recent email I received from an ex client. I emailed the ex client with my copying fees. The
ex client emailed back refusing to pay and never heard back.

So am I to believe the ex client found their tax returns.

    or

Am I to believe the ex client was to lazy to look for the tax returns.

I don't believe the ex client could have obtained copies from any other place then me : )

    What do you think?

I think the operative words in your post are "ex client".
Regardless of the reasons, you've probably insured that he will always remain an "ex client". (Not being critical with the observation - maybe that was your intention).

Clients that want you to write the ''CPA mortgage letter' (well that're probably now exclients because you wouldn't) and can't understand why you can't do 'just that one little thing' for them. In the middle of tax season. Ex-husbands that talk you into buying a rental property in the middle of tax season, and then inform you that since they have 1000 hours of leave time saved up, they're going back to Thailand on vacation again on April 2.

Why can't our software deduct our tax prep fees from the t/p's refund.[/QUOTE]

I just started using Refund Advantage for cases such as this. For as little as $12 you can send the state refund through their bank and have all of your fees deducted (provided the state refund is large enough to cover your fees). Your fees are in turn directly deposited to your own bank account. If state refund does not cover fees, you can do the same with the federal, but the fee to do so is a little more. I sent my first one today so will see how it works.

You can check it out at www.refund-advantage.com

I met their representative at the Tax Slayer seminar in Auguata, GA in Nov. Their office is in Louisville Ky and they use Ohio Valley Bank.

Because it is not legal for you to touch their refund.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

                Small Business

Smalll business entities that do their own accounting and balance sheets, and nothing adds up. Then when you ask the questions, oh yes, I paid that from my personal account, oh yes, I took out some money, etc

I feel like I should have a degree in "forensic accounting".

                  Right there with you Sandy.

                  QuickBooks! QuickBooks!
I've had two customers come to me this year that I had to redo 2006 journal entries for quickbooks. They never restored the backup copy I gave to them. Even though I walked them through it over the phone.

As the thread starter I feel compelled to reply.. I actually like my clients using Quickbooks. It sure beats a lot of the alternatives (thinking of boxes of receipts, spreadsheets that don't add...)

                          Clients

I don't mind Quickbooks, for those clients that I monitor on a regular basis and then am able to charge an accounting/bookkeeping fee, etc.

I mind the clients, that don't want to pay for that, and provide Quicken or Quickbooks or think they can prepare a separate Excel worksheet, and don't know the difference between an asset and liability, draw or reimbursement, capital contribution, etc. The one that comes to mind right now actually has a CPA degree and has some title such as CFO with a high paying salary. You would love to see this worksheet!

All because I need to do the balance sheet.

                            GoToMeeting

I'm loving clients using Quickbooks since I discovered that Gotomeeting thing. Sure saves time and trouble because I can work on THEIR file. If anyone knows of a cheaper substitute, let me know? It costs $50/month, but worth it.

B Hoffman, can you share "GoToMeeting" info or link so I can read up on?

                              Thanks

I use logmein.com with some of my clients. The client sets up the account (free) and gives me the log in info & password. Their computer needs to be on, but I can log in from my office without them needing to be there.
