Client bought and installed what he calls a 'transfuel saver' for his tractor. $6000 piece of equipment, and whatever it is, it works! Fuel expense is almost the same as '06, and he put on a lot more miles. He has heard (from other drivers) that there is a credit for installing this.I've researched and haven't found anything. Has anyone heard of anything like this? It's supposedly going to become a required piece of equipment for inner city truck travel.

It sounds like an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), which is a a generator powered by a small diesel engine, many times smaller than the main engine. The idea is to eliminate diesel idling in heavily populated areas. The generator provides electricity for heat, lights and AC. Reducing diesel idling, reduces air pollution and fuel consumption. 'No Idle Zones' are being established in a lot of areas.
Most states offer grants or low interest loans to retrofit existing vehicles. One state, Oregon, offers tax credits.
There is no federal tax credit.
