Re: Rebate -- A maximum number of children?

Anybody happen to know this? Have only dealt with people having no more than two and IRS examples use that number. Today a guy ($12K SS only) comes in -- has four kids. Does he get $300 each for them in addition to his and mom's $300 each?

$300 each under 17, so if they were "very active" they could have many, many, many under 17. Just think - 10 kids = $3000.

First of all, I would want an explanation of how five (or six if he's married) lived on $12K. There just has to be other income even if it is private charity or public assistance. I would not demand proof but I would get a story I considered believable before I filed the return.

Second, is this guy on SSI? I had understood that SSI was not going to get anyone a stimulus check. I know that OP would not knowingly take money for filing a return ineligible for stimulus money for a client who expects to get stimulus money.

You are indeed a card, EC...I swear I just don't see how you can bear up under the enormous load of that outsized conscience you're carryin' around on your shoulders.

Okay, I promise I'll take it to heart. When they pick up, I'll slap 'em with an ethical standards hit list that you (and Mark Everson) would be proud of and will make their cash-countin' heads swim. If they don't come across I'll threaten dire reprisals -- a stringent, on-site personal inspection of their delapidated shack and an in-depth audit/analysis of all Wal-Mart tickets. I know right where they live (about 20 miles out in the country) 'cause I once worked near that beat-up, cars-on-blocks, pit-bull infested, mobile-home meth-Mecca. I think I might take my .38 though, since anybody driving a late-model car is suspect and gets strange, sideways looks.

          ...is this guy on SSI?...
Yeah, of course he's on SSI...and Social Security...and MedicAid...and HUD...and food stamps...and AFDC...and ARkids insurance...and maybe a "crazy check"...and every other government program known to man or beast. An ex-farm hand, he could be drivin' a tractor for cash, but...so what? I'm only required to ask if this is all his income -- he's said "yes" and it's not incumbent upon me to go check it out or to run him off just because I think he might have something going "on the side." There's no end to that road.

By the way, anybody collecting SS "at any age" that has kids under 18> the kids also get SS.

So does he have qualifying dependents? Who is providing more than 50% of the support if anyone? The children themselves w/ the Social security in their name? Or the client w/ his Social security?

There is no qualifying conditions to receive SS for dependents of a person collecting SS at any age. My sister is 67 and adopted a child, she is on SS with her husband and they also get a SS check for the adopted 9 year old. And yes, the check comes in the Patents name FBO the child. No reporting on the parents' return.

                  Suggestion

Would it be out of line to suggest that he might want to spend part of his rebate on a vasectomy?
