    Inherited IRA

Taxpayer passed away in 2007 before reaching 70-1/2. Would have been 70-1/2 in 2008. Wife inherited IRA's. She is 69. Does the RMD have to start based on the taxpayer's age or the age of the wife?

    It depends.

See page 20 "What if You Inherit an IRA?"

Basically as an inherited IRA from spouse they have 3 options.
    1) Treat it as your own by designating themself as account owner.
    2) Treat it as your own by rolling it over.
    3) Treat yourself as beneficiary rather than treating it as your own.

And depending which option she chooses would affect the RMD.
