    Business Mileage and Per Diem

Taxpayer works for companies that drill oil wells. They travel around where ever there is work. Their main home is in Kentucky. 2007 they went to Texas to work and was there from Aug 2007 until Feb of 2008. Now they are back in Kentucky working for a different company about 80 miles from their home. Question I have is the mileage to travel to Texas considered business mileage? Also can they claim per diem for the time they were in Texas? What about the same for the company they are now working for back here in Kentucky? And if they stay overnight at the Kentucky location would the motel cost be deductible?

    Thanks for the help
