    Catholic Clergy tax return

Morning all, this would be my first one. Would this occupation be considered as self employed?

Any tips on preparing this return on what the client should bring other then official tax documents the client received?

It would depend on how the priest is paid by the diocese: W-2 (which is more common) or 1099-MISC (self-employed). Categorisation would determine what to bring to the office in addition to the reporting documents.

There is the possability of both a W-2 and Schedule C or E. W-2 for parish work and schedule C if paid for additional work as a subcontrator like teaching at the seminary and Schedule E if there are nay royalties for creative works like books or songs. One has to look at each service the clergy provides and the source of the funds. Stipends from special parish services should be handled as directed by the archdiocise.
