Info in wrong box on W-2

I have several clients that worked for one particular business that put their SS# in box d
(control box) instead of box a (employees social security number). I called the business and they didn't think they needed to issue new ones. The secretary said she had already filed and received her refund with no problem. Is this going to cause any problems with Social Security Administration or will they fix? Will there be any problem with efiling or paper filing? I'm trying to fix, if necessary before there is a problem.

    Wrong Box

I would enter the social security number in the correct location for e-file.

My guess is the social security admin will contact the employer for corrected W-2's

Our local school system issued 16,000 W-2 forms with the SocSec# in the wrong place. They first said not to worry about it, but then a couple of days later they issue dcorrected ones after they talked to the IRS & SocSec Admin.

          re the SSA link below

I haven't looked at it, but just so everyone will know, SSA has announced that even though
the W2's it has received with incorrect placement of SSN's, there's no problem and no need
to resubmit. they have systems in place to read it correctly.

Can you imagine their sending all those W2/W3's back for "corrections"? (shudder)
