    Technology-challenged

My client is a special fx /cinematic artist.

I have his deduction list in front of me and he has an i-Pod listed. It's my understanding that this is used only for downloading music for his enjoyment. Am I correct? If I'm not, is there any business purpose for this so that I'll be aware of when I call him?

Sorry for the dumb question, but I don't buy this stuff and really don't know its capabilities.

    Thank you,

    Dennis

Ask him how this is used in his business & if it is 100% business use. Of course he will say yes it is 100%, but at least you asked & he will need to prove that position in an audit or exam.
And technically, I would say the i-Pod needs to be capitalized.

        Ok

        Thank you both.

I will capitalize it and will ask him about the business use. Also, I will ask him how the video games comes into play, but it probably does, as this is his line of work.

        Thanks,again!

Where's a teenager when we need one?!

Need a techno-savvy teen or twenty-something. He probably plays videos, maybe shows his own video promos to prospective clients. Probably listens to music while he commutes, too! But, yeah, you gotta ask him about business use and biz percentage. Maybe, he just "wears" it so he looks younger and cool to be accepted in the entertainment industry...

            OK, here's my 20-yr-old's answer

no, ipods now can hold videos and pictures as well
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:22:11 AM): alond with notes, planners, and other things
            TaxLadyCT (12:22:19 AM): cool
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:22:20 AM): does he have an iPhone? or just an iPod?
TaxLadyCT (12:22:31 AM): think it's the iPod
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:22:56 AM): ok, so if his job includes video and cinematic "stuff" then I'd say it could be for his job
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:23:11 AM): you should ask him specifically what he uses it for
TaxLadyCT (12:23:38 AM): it's the client of a friend, he's going to ask but wanted to sound knowledgeable when he calls his client...
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:23:57 AM): yeah, ask what features of the ipod he specifically uses for his job
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:24:16 AM): if he talks about "research for videos and stuff" then it could work
TaxLadyCT (12:24:22 AM): you're so smart, that's what he needed. we needed someone younger than us
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:24:31 AM): and double check that it's not iphone, because that's definitely for business
GreenEyedWonder8 (12:24:47 AM): robins uses his as his planner and calendar and conputer sometimes

              I think that's fantastic!

Thank the GreenEyedWonder for me. He just got an i-Phone and some attachments. I have a call out regarding the i-Pod, but no return, yet.

My client works for a well-known company that developes games and other things like them. I had the chance to see a couple of them working and finetuning the images, movement, etc. It was amazing to me! The are really good. To them, it's nothing.

              Thanks for sharing your message!

                First Editions

Have him get you first editions of the new, hard to get, hot games before Christmas and you'll be the favorite relative of all your stepkids, nieces & nephews, etc., during the holidays! It's actually easier to "talk" with your kids via IMs after they go away to college than it ever was when they were in high school and stopped communicating with parents or anyone else "old."
