    The First Rush Is Over

And now I can start concentrating on my business accounts, monthly workups, and take a breath.......................................... I guess that I have about a week before it breaks loose again.

I got slammed so early this year and I'm still trying to finish those. Making progress, but a lot of pressure. Within a few days, I was already 2 weeks back.

Opened my briefcase yesterday and pulled 10 returns out to add to the pile. I'm hoping to get all the originals out and start again.

    Enjoy your breather!

What I meant was the phone calls have slowed and the in-office appointments are less, giving me some time that I can use as I wish. I still have 20+ returns to work on but I can work on business issues because I have spaces in my appointment book.

I have completed 155 personal tax returns and 7 corporations. By the time I go to bed I"ll have 3 more Corp and maybe 2 personals done.

By no means am I laying back with nothing to do. It is just that when I look up there are no faces in front of me.

I'm with you Dennis - I do just under 500 returns and have 318 in the door - grant it some are minor but still, the main thought this year is the sooner I file the sooner I'll get the rebate check. I'm weeks behind and can't see a light at the end of my tunnel.

I was thinking that very thing the other day. I was in between appts. and thought what a waste of very precious time. I do love working at home, but I really love an office environment better.

              All Alone??

              Do you all work alone????

              I usually conquer about 150 clients in February all alone, a one man band (or she band LOL) , but I see I am behind this year, they seem to be laying in a heap waiting for me. I just put 125 in the computer. I feel like I work slower each year. {Getting old is for the birds}

I do work alone and I need someone to help me from time to time. Not all the time, but my wife has not been able to lend me a hand the last couple of years and I really miss her helping out. She would do anything I do. In all honesty, just running interference or answering the phone helps so much and allows me to concentrate.

                  All Alone!

Yes, I am all alone as well...The phone, preparing returns, scheduling appointments, representing a client in an audit (which is right now as well)...Whew!..Hubby cannot help, he is visually impaired...To top it off, I think I am coming down with a cold...LORD NOT NOW PLEASE!!!!

                    Alone but not lonely

I'm out on my own for the first time this year. Was worried about former clients finding me so sent out postcards the end of January. Within a week, I had 25 personal and entity returns dropped off; and they just keep coming. Then, we had three funerals in a week, one out of state. Next, I got a sinus infection. I'm so far behind. But, it's better than the alternative of not working! Have a great season, everyone.

                      Buried too

I too work alone and I work from my home. My husband helps with some things. He does my deposits for me and answers the phone when he is home if I'm busy. I spent the afternoon just sorting and finding little things I had to do right now.
As of tonight I only have one person coming in tomorrow. So I should be able to finish an s corp or 2 tomorrow.
Seems like everyone last week had some kind of problem. Got to research a couple and waiting for information from another.

Since I work from home, I have been working very late at night, as you can see by the time now. But that makes me tired in the morning. So I think I will put 2 returns in the computer, very simple ones, and head for the bedroom. It's calling me......

is February 22nd, and therefore at 5 pm this afternoon, happy hour coincidentally,
we will be half way there.

                          Well I haven't seen 1/2 of last year's clients

Not to say that I haven't done more than 1/2 of last year's volume, but more than 1/2 of last year hasn't come in yet. Lot's of new clients this year. Looks like we might do 2.5 times as much as last year (and no one locally died or retired this year, unlike Sue Baby!).

How are ya countin'? I've got 27 Feb marked as halfway point this year. Starting with 11 Jan as first day of efile season, I counted 96 days to tax season this year. (Jan- 21 days; Feb- 29 days; Mar 31- days & Apr- 15 days- not that I'm obsessing- yeah right!) Did you notice it is bit longer than usual? Anyhow, enjoy happy hour!

                              putting in my stats!

I just love the chatter now that we can breathe a little! I've done 140 returns so far, and had hoped to top 300 this year.

I work alone in my home, and my very smart 28 yr old daughter helped me last weekend with the deposits, phone and door! She will help me more and more each year, as business picks up. I was so slammed from the beginning that I thought I'd go nuts!

The problem children are what kill me. They screw it all up and I fix it. Some are way out there, too. That is what will give me gray hair.

I saw in NATP magazine, an ad for Wise Guides (?) study guide for EA. Think I better make a decision and do it. I might be able to get more money for all the "fixing" I have been doing if I were an EA.

This is going to be a great year for me, and that would only make it better.

Thanks for letting me be part of a marvelous professional group. I search the message board and rarely need to ask a question. If it isn't in the book, it's on the board. I'm ever-so-grateful.
