    2008 Irs E-file Chart

I printed my chart off of the website as usual evey year to go by. This year it is not on time. When I tell everyone they will get their money in the bank on that day it is 5 days LATE and the state always comes before the federal and now it is this year way past the federal.

Does anyone have this problem on your end? People are flooding my phone "Where is my money?"

I always tell my clients the date according to the chart, but then say that they always should check with their bank to make sure the money is there. I have not heard any complaints yet, and actually had one person tell me it showed up early.

      late refunds

      SueBaby,
I too have had many refunds being "late" this year. This is the first year I have noticed this problem. Like KBTS, I also warn clients that the chart is only an estimate not a guarantee.

        Late calls too

Yes, I have had clients call because their refund wasn't in the bank when direct deposit schedule said it would be there. If you go to "Where's my Refund?" on IRS website and put in the taxpayers information, most of the time it says the following Tuesday's date.

I called Practioner Priority line to ask about this. I used my own as an example. The website says I will have my refund by 2/26 and direct deposit should be 2/22. He looked it up and said that it was supposed to go on 22nd. So we shall see.

He also said they were using 2 systems now and the second system will make deposits and send out checks any day, not just Fridays. He also said that IRS can only process so many checks and direct deposits on each cycle. So when that que fills up, they start going to the next que. Maybe this means that a lot more people are doing electronic filing and doing it in the month of February. I'm not sure.

But I do know that the money is not necessarily getting to the people when the chart says it will.

          No late deposits so far.
The way it works is that 2 thursdays have to pass before the refund is deposited .
If you file a return on wednesday night it is not accepted until thursday . that refund will take exactly 2 weeks.
If it is filed during the day on wednesday then the refund is deposited 1 week earlier.

That is the best way to explain to the clients

Everybody should pay his income tax with a smile. I tried it, but they wanted cash

Remember IRS does their weekly update "drain" at 11:00am local time on thursdays. All we've done this year getting in before the time on thursday are deposited the following week (some as early as Wed pm/Thursday am).

              Efile chart

At the bottom of the efile chart is a statement that they do not guarantee a deposit date.

However, all of mine, this year, have either on schedule or early.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

I have a couple clients call say refund arrived early, like the Tuesday before the Friday cyle date.

Two called said it is late and both of these had EIC so I'm not sure if it is because of that or if that is just coincidence.

I always mail form 9325 to my clients after the return has been accepted. Since last year it doesn't give a definite date any more. It always says between this date and that date. I highlight the dates and never heard from any client that these dates were not kept.

I am using the refund chart

And handwriting on the Instruction letter, that the deposit date is between this date and that date, giving at least a two week window.

                    No phone calls yet!
