    IRS Representation

I like to expand in IRS representation area. I have done very few but would like to attend formal class.

Is there any seminar or books that any one can recommend?

    Thanks!

    Taxpayer Representation

Years ago when I first got into taxpayer represetation I found some good publications with PPC. I believe they were called something like Representing the audited taxpayer and Representing the taxpayer at the appelate level. I don't know if they are still published but at the time I found them to contain some good proceedural info and some basic rules and forms. Now I use internet access at West Publishing, CCH, RIA, etc. Try to get some good mentoring as this can be a slipery slope if you don't follow the correct path. You should find this to be a challenging area of practice and eventually after you walk the learning curve a lucrative area of practice. After thirty years or so this area accounts for about two thirds of my practice now. ........Good Luck!

      Representation info

I agree that PPC has some good material for use in representation work. I get their annual copy of "Dealing with the IRS" which is the primary books for rep. The National Tax Practice Institute hosted by the Nat'l Association of EAs is a good classroom method of learning about rep work and how to handle client problems. Problem of course is the need to travel to Washington DC and spend the time in the classes.

        Taxpayer Rep

As an afterthought also read Circular 230 re who is authorized to practice before the Service......Also after a few years you will find this area has higher margins than producing tax returns.........It does for me. You should charge a higher billing rate for tax rep............ Again Good Luck!

NCPE also offers a series of courses (3 levels) on Rep work. Locations are few, and travel is required for most.
