    NY state question

Taxpayer moved from New york to Florida in 2006. (I'm working on an amended return). On the NY state return is he allowed to deduct his moving expenses that he can take on his federal return?

I would look up the answer

in my All States Book (if it was on a CD) but my book is at the office.

But my experience has been the state you are departing is probably not anxious to subsidize it.

      Tomorrow

Maybe you can look for an answer tomorrow. That will be fine. He is picking up 2007 tomorrow. But he will wait to pick up amended until he has more money. So I don't need an answer tonight.

      Thanks

2006 tax year, TTB All States Edition, page NY-16:

Moving expenses—nonresidents. If the taxpayer moved to a
new home because of a change in job location in New York State
or the taxpayer started a new job in New York State, moving expenses
incurred during the nonresident period are adjustments
connected with income from New York State sources and are deductible.
Include in the New York State amount column the part
of the federal amount column that represents adjustments connected
with income from New York State sources. If the new job
or new work location is outside New York State, the moving expenses
are not deductible in the New York State amount column
since they are not considered to be connected with income from
        New York State sources.

          Thank you

Thank you Bees, for looking that up for me.

It is still worth amending the NY state return because they didn't take their child care credit last year.
