    Name?

I have a client that has a looong name. My software will not let me e-file it because of it. His name is Robert S Higginbottham. I took his middle S off but still too long with his wife's name too. (too many letters in both names).

Will the IRS accept it if I just put R. for the first name, although it is Robert on the SS card? I don't want to mail it just because of a name. My software (Drake) said call the IRS of this but really don't have the time to hang on. What is your thought on this?

Shorten the last name as needed. The control name on a return is the first 4 letters of the last name. Hence "Higg" is all that is needed for an efile acceptance.

Yes Sue Baby you can shorten both the first and middle names and they will be accepted by the IRS. R S Higginbottham is ok

Everybody should pay his income tax with a smile. I tried it, but they wanted cash

Y2KEA is correct. You only need the first four letters of the last name.

          I wonder how Shakespeare

would adapt to our electronic world?
