Dependency Support

In filling out the Dependency Support worksheet, on line 3, enter the amount used for other purposes, what items might you put there? Child received about 10K in SS benefits. Parents say they put some in savings for the child and the rest was put towards the household and none of that amount was paid directly for support of the child???? Is that really an acceptable argument?

anyone want to jump in on this one? I called the IRS hotline and they told me that line 3 is where you put amounts that were used for "whatever" the child may have used the money for aside from support or savings. Does this make sense?
