    Correcting duplicate 1099's

This should be pretty straight forward but I'm not quite sure how to do this.

My client prepared 1099's in 2006 and then found some errors. They revised them and gave them to their subcontractors. (Not corrections just new 1099's). Somehow, they managed to file the originals twice so now the IRS has duplicate 1099's for their 1099 recipients.

I understand how to correct a 1099 filing -just indicate corrected in the new 1099 box. But how do you correct duplicate 1099's? Does issuing a new corrected 1099 replace ALL prior 1099's from that company?

I'm on snooze (hold) with the IRS currently but may soon give up...I've been waiting a long time....

    Thanks

    Carolyn

    get an answer?

I'm thinking sending in 1099s with the corrected box should fix the probelm.
