    Question about ProSeries software

To anyone out there that has the '07 ProSeries Basic Edition Software: This is my 4th year using this software and when I received it back in December I noticed the layout of the program screens were different than the past 3 years. I thought that they just changed things around and I'd have to get used to it. Now I am starting to question if perhaps I changed a setting or something I am not catching on to.

In my Quick Reference Guide Manual page 29, it shows the layout of the "Left Navigation Area" which is the way it was layed out in previous years; but not how mine is layed out now. I have a list on the left of my screen when working on a return, but it's not at all the same and somewhat annoying to me.

There are no longer tabs to click on (to change between worksheets) at the top of return, while I am working on it, and this too bothers me.

Am I missing something here? I never changed any settings that I am aware of. It's what it looked like from the day I first opened a new client return. Why doesn't it match my manual? What do yours look like? (same as last year or newly designed?)

Thanks for any info. you can give me.

    Proseries

I have ProSeriers Basic as well. I looked for somewhere to change the settings on the screen and do not see any that would make it look like yours does.

I'm not being smart here, but are you sure you have the Basic program open? When you purchase Basic, you also get the Professional program on a separate disk to use on a pay-per-return basis. What you are describing sounds to me like the Professional screen - no tabs, a listing of forms on the left hand side, and different icons in the tool bar at the top.

Let me know if this helps. You can PM me if you want me to try to email a screen shot of my version of each to you.

      Hmmmm....

Now I'm really confused. Thanks for your input (and I don't think you were trying to be smart; just helpful). I am going to investigate more this morning. I downloaded my product when it became available in December. When I received my packing slip for the disk it said:

ProSeries Basic Edition Product Delivery Tax Year 2007
ProSeries Basic Edition 1040/4 States 100 Efile Tax Year 2007

That's what I ordered. I will see what I can figure out and get back to you with the results. Thanks!!

        Kbts - Thanks!!

I just wanted to thank you for putting the idea into my head about the version of my software. When I downloaded originally, I had no reason to suspect that I got the wrong version; other than I thought they reworked the layout.

I took out my disk, popped it in; after downloading was pleasantly surprised to see that I did in fact have the wrong version. So thankfully I had only began 2 returns on the other software. Now I've redone those returns on my correct software. I just can't figure what I missed to begin with?!

Anyhow, thanks for giving an answer to what I thought may have been a stupid question that no one would be willing to help me with!!

BTW, I spent nearly 1 hour on hold with ProSeries tech support today (regarding information not flowing into my state returns properly). What a nightmare that was. First time I've ever done and I won't be doing it again any time soon if I can help it.

Glad I could help. I've found tech support is pretty hit or miss. The online chat is only a bit better. Perhaps when you downloaded in December, only the Professional version was available and you never noticed. Anyway, hope the rest of your season goes much smoother now.
