Where does pretax deduction show up on w2

I just had a non-client call me regarding filling out her W2s. The employees have a pretax deduction taken out of their check for AFLAC. Where should this deduction show up on the W2? In box 12? Then what code? Or, in a different box?
    Thanks

        Box 14

Box 12 code E is a 403(b) or something like that. Pre-tax medical premiums are optionally reported in Box 14 with other informational items. Flex spending can go there except for dependent care which goes in Box 10. Now, I said all that without a W-2 in front of me, so take the numbers with a grain of salt. There is a Pub on filling out W-2s.

Why would it be noted anywhere?

PT insurance is PT for both FIT and FICA, so the income numbers are all the same. I don't see a reason why a note would be needed.

            Am I wrong?

              You are Wrong

sorry Josh, with all due respect. You are correct if you are simply trying to file taxes.

How many times does the subject come up? Certainly not every client, but several times a year. Someone has a salary of $1000 per week all year long, but has a W-2 for some $48,226.42. He asks why there is a difference. Part of the difference is in Box 12, but there is no obligation to populate Box 14. Some employers put withheld medical, union dues, other type information in Box 14, but it is information only.

But there is not a requirement to note that in box 14

is there? That was my question. For my clients who have PT insurance I do not make a notation in Box 14 for the PT insurance withheld. Of course, if they have a PT retirement plan I put that info in Box 12.

Am I supposed to be putting the PT insurance withheld in box 14 or is it optional?

                  No requirement

Josh you are right in that there is no such requirement. And even if the employer voluntarily furnishes the information, there is no effect on taxes, provided the rest of the W-2 is correct.

The information is simply helpful to know on occasions.

clarification. I was getting concerned as we have already prepared 400 W-2's in the last 10 days.

                        Ministers Box 14

Could be very relevent were parsonage allownace is concerned. It woulf have to be included in income for EIC purposes if minister is subject to social security, and is not counted as "Earned Income" if minister is exempt, unless he has "Excess Parsonage Allownace"

As a preparer I am always glad when pre-tax is in box 14. It answers all those questions about ,for instance, health insurance they "paid" and want to take as a deduction, but actually was pre-tax. I think it should be there to help the preparer who looks at the W-2.

No layoffs anywhere, all my manufacturing clients are ramping up and hiring, not slowing down and firing. Some of my construction guys are slower than they were but they're still working. Raleigh and Charlotte were one of only about 5 major cities nationwide that still saw home price appreciation last year.
