Best way to get copy of return

Client is getting a divorce. Under all the rules, he is entitled to claim child. However, so far, the wife continues to withhold all information and has last year's tax returns. What is the best way to get a copy of his return which was MFJ for 2006?

I think there was a discussion of this some months ago, but am unable to find it.

    Thanks for all help.
Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

Best Way to get Tax Return

So long as return prep WAS paid for, preparer should comply with request to provide copy.
Client could also file Form 4506 - and pay fee to obtain copy of return.
If you're registered for e-services, with POA you could extract transcript data.

I haven't tried it before, but I've seen people on the board here say that you can get one PDQ by calling them (866-860-4259). I don't know if that's for transcripts only or a complete copy.

Check with your state. I had a similar case last year and for $5.00 we ordered a copy from the State and it included a copy of the Federal.
