    Forced to Buy Quickfinder

Anyone run into this. The annual Tax Seminar I go to (all day seminar) with the PA Society of Public Accountants, will be using the Quickfinder 1040 as the seminar course book. I prefer The Tax Book. This is a sort of way of getting back at those of us who swtich from QF to TTB. So I suggest to TTB staff of looking into a marketing program to have the tax book used as the course book for some of the tax seminars out there.

    Forced to

use Quickfinder. I would simply tell that organization to blow it out of their ear. I would also not take out a membership. I certainly would let them know why. There are other prof organizations that you can be a part of. I have never heard of such nerve.

      Well Maybe

The PA Society of Public Accountants has not been introduced to the TAX BOOK. And there should be a mailing to them or some type of introduction!

        Casualties of War

No one expected QF to fold up and die. This is competition and everything that comes with it. Could be that the PA folks were impressed with QF when Brad and Paul were running it.

From their website it looks like they sponsor GearUp seminars. Which are owned by Thompson, the company that bought QF. I wonder if GU is going to quit having their own manual next year? Before GU was purchased you used to be able to e-mail questions regarding the material in the manual and get a response from the writer of the section. I tried that after Thompson took over and got a regurgitation of my question as a response.

            related marketing opportunity

During the past year, I took (and passed) all three of the EA exams and also taught a summertime course entitled "EA Preparation Course" for others intending to take those exams. With all due respect to the value of the higher-cost alternatives Gleim, etc., it seemed to me that studying The Tax Book, or reading Competitor Q, was an excellent way to prepare for those EA exams. There should be a variety of ways that Tax Materials Inc. could use classes such as that as a way to generate revenue and to turn the EA candidates, and the instructors, into marketing ambassadors themselves.

              not Gear Up

The seminar I was referring to that is using Quickfinder as the course book, while it is a PSPA seminar (state branch of Nat. Soc. Accts.) it is not one of the Gear Up Seminars, it is done by local CPA's. So Gear Up still uses the 3 ring binders as always. When I ask about this I was told that TTB did not return thier phone calls. I'm not sure I believe this, perhaps there was some misunderstanding glitch or something. The other local PSPA chapter (I go to both chapters) does indeed endorse TTB and give a free Deluxe book to anyone with perfect attendance all year. I will keep on the Phila chapter to consider switching.

                John,

You are welcome to send me an email with the name and email address of any contact person who is in charge of ordering books for tax seminars or professional tax and accounting associations. I will forward the information to our sales manager. We have several programs available for organizations that are willing to use and promote our products. There are a number of organizations who already do so.
