    0% Capital Gains

Has there been any legislative action on the 0% capital gains tax bracket for 2008?

I couldn't imagine them leaving this alone, but I'm not aware that they've changed anything. Of course, they have another year before people file returns which include this bracket.

Nothing's changed yet. Although if Congress is still deciding the AMT issue at this hour, who knows if they'll wait until the 11th hour of 2008 to increase capital gains rates. Wouldn't that be fun?? Just like when they increased the kiddie tax age rule midway through last year & made it retroactive to Jan. 1st.

I'll bet there will be several stock sales over the next couple of years. I wonder how this will affect Ameritrade and others stock?

Now that would be the mother of all tax increases...................

.... to have sold a stock in early 2008 and owe nothing until congress decided to do something at the end of the year. I don't think they'd dare do it.

2008 seems settled, 2009 and 2010 are up for grabs

I really doubt that Congress would vote to retroactively raise the 0% rate during 2008. Even if Congress were to vote that in late during 2008, say after the Nov. election, Bush would not sign it before leaving office 1/20/2009.

It would be a lot easier to believe that the capital gains rates which will apply during 2009 and 2010 might get changed somewhere along the way.
