Lawn care--Is this a home office expense?

I have heard both "yes" and "no" to this question. Thanks. Joanne

My understanding is that lawn care expenses are classified under regs as unrelated expenses and not includable as deductable home office expense......Don't recall the cite for this perhaps someone else does.

      It depends

I am sure it's an expense if child care is the home business.

I am not sure about a "normal" home office though.

            No research

I think I recall something with OTR Truckers as well for lawn maintenance and snow removal expenses being deductible while away over the road.

I haven't dealt w/it recently and haven't taken any time to research the topic so I could be totally wrong but depending on the client your dealing with you may want to do some specific research.

The "special rules" are for determining the business %, not the type of expenses that are deductible.
