Microsoft will dictate when we all will have to upgrade to Vista. Looking at their Windows homepage, the only two options I can see are Windows Vista (in the number one position) and Windows XP (at number two). I don’t see Windows 2000, Windows 98, or Windows 95.

One of my computers still has Windows 2000. If it ever died and I could not find the disk for it, I doubt if I could buy a new box for Windows 2000, even if I wanted to load it on a new computer. The same thing will eventually happen to Windows XP.

I have had good luck getting older software on E-bay, even after it is not available other places. If you have to replace Windows 2000, you might try there. Most of the software is legally sold with a license (sold as OEM - they will ship you some kind of piece of a computer).

I don't really want VIsta until it is at least on service pack 1 - to fix all the bugs any new operating system has. My son has it on his laptop, and he loves it most of the time and I have to admit the colors and the video definition are superior. BUT that isn't an important issue when it comes to tax programs and bookkeeping software.
