The government will give up on new worker verification rules

now that a judge has blocked them, granting an injunction sought by a broad coalition of employers, unions and civil rights groups. The rules, which were due to take effect Sept. 14, were aimed at firms that file many w2's with Social Security numbers that don't match names in the goverment's records. Employers would have had just 90 days to either take steps to clear up the Discrepancies or fire the workers.
    Copied--The Kiplinger Tax Letter, vol 82, no. 21, Oct 19, 2007.

Why can't the matching of SSN on W2's be done electronically the way they are done with 1040s the are efiled? I had a payroll person in another state tell me that with immigrants there is a key used and no FICA, Medicare, or Federal income tax is witheld on these pay checks.

Here again the political parties in charge of this country are not demanding change but allowing big business to wreck the economy of this country. In politics as in everthing else money talks. The government is supporting big business with cheap labor and all the social services demanded by immigrants.

    Multinational Corporations

Chief, the big multinational special interests have taken over. This is no longer the government "for the people, by the people" or anything of the sort. I'll close now since this promises to be a purely political discussion, but I will say that it won't matter who is elected -- this will not change.

Just to salvage something about taxes on this thread: It is similar to Mr. Clinton's campaign promise for a "middle-class tax cut" financed by a "surtax on taxpayer's making over $200,000." The only thing that happened was EVERYONE got a tax increase shortly after he took office.
