    Sales Tax in Texas

Here's a site you can to go to check out the specifics of your question:

The Texas Comptroller's office collects state and local sales tax, and we allocate local sales tax revenue to cities, counties and other taxing units.

Texas Tax Code Chapter 151 imposes tax on sales of tangible personal property.

This would include collecting sales tax on products that the cosmetologist sells to the client. I have yet to find any information on the taxation of a cosmetologist's services.

My wife is a cosmetologist and she has always informed me, from information gathered at her continuing education classes, that her services were not taxable.

Here is a link to Publication 96-259: This provides a list of all the taxable services. http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinf.../tx96_259.html

Texas sales tax is probably one of the most complex beasts I have ever seen. I'd rather eat dirt than to prepare these returns.

      Hope this helps.
