    What do You Do

What happens if the return cannot be completed by the due date due to various reasons and there is a balance still owed to IRS? Can you just print a voucher and put a check with it to at least get the estimated balance due in to the IRS by 10-15 to save on any additional penalties?

That's what I would do. At least the client would get his payment in to the IRS on time.

How are you doing? HavenIt heard from you in quite a while. Trust that your health is holding its own. It's hell to start growing older. But better than not.

I've wondered the same thing. It would seem odd to use an estimated tax form right now and I don't want to send it in without some kind of accompanying paper. That's a good idea you've got about printing out a payment voucher (I assume you're talking about a 1040-V). I hadn't thought of that before and I can't think of anything else to use.

Since it's always best to identify types of payment (in addition to descriptions on the check's "for" line), your voucher seems to fill the bill. I think I'll try it myself next time that comes up. Although nothing bad usually happens, sometimes IRS sends a letter asking where to apply the payment and customers generally see that as a sign you've done something wrong, left something off, etc., etc.

        Chief

Most of my time has been spent going back and forth to doctors and clinic.
Am doing better now. Had a tough time a while back. Almost lost it.
Went in to have some blood drawn for lab work. After they drew the blood the nurse
flushed my port out with a solution. Apparently there was some bacteria in the port and the solution washed it into my blood and caused a blood infection. Fever went from normal to 105 in about 45 minutes. Spent 4 days in ICU and another 2 weeks in the
        hospital.
Good news is that my cancer is in total remission. Not cured though.
Bad news is that I have a 2 blood clots. one in my leg & the other in my lung.
        Am currently on blood thinner.
Otherwise I am feeling good and eating quite a bit. Have gained 5 of the 7 lbs. I previously lost.
Enough of this I need to get another tax return done.
        Appreciate you asking.

          Late Filing Penalty

If you sent in an estimated payment on the 2006 tax return on Oct. 15, today, and file the return llater, will this prevent the late filing penalty?
