    SSA-1099 Help Needed

Last minute filer has lost their copy of SSA-1099 showing husband's payments received. Is there an online area where this can be obtained? If not, what is the best way to go about obtaining this information?

    Thanks for all help.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

    Back into the numbers..

by monthly payments X 12 plus medicare part B

    Or:

Last year X Cost of living adjustment. (may have to google for that but will be around 3%)

      Possible to estimate

You can estimate the amount. If the client received a full year of benefits in 2005, then just increase the amount reported for 2006 by the percentage that all SocSec recipients received. (It's going to be around 3% more or less). I think that info is available at SSA.gov, but if not, you could calculate the percentage increase based on the percentage increase by doin a quick check of the percentage increase showing on a few other retired client's returns

If the 2005 benefit was for less than a full year, if the client had increases or repayments due to prior-year calculations, or if there were any unusual circumstances, estimiating might not work. But it's a possibility...

          Thanks everyone!

Since posting she has been able to come up with the sheet telling how much the monthly benefit and medicare cost will be. I will multiply by 12 and go with it.

All of your replies are appreciated and after season will look at the ss online services as suggested.

They can print one at the local SSA office if you have one.

Unfortunately, the closest one is 75 miles away.

If the client has a fax you can get one that way from the 800 number or faxed to you if the client's in the office with you. Took me about ten minutes last March.
