Just spoke to a salesman re ProSystem fx. Sending me a demo and providing a online demo after the 15th. $4,675 gets me individual and businesses and all states and.... Plus efile charges per return. Three year 50% discount. Monthly payments available at 0 interest. Have demo disks for Lacerte and UltraTax CS. Any other high end software I should evaluate? Back to extensions, including my own!

$4,675 seems awfully steep for your new office you're starting this coming season.
What is the basic price and then each state cost and entity cost, if you purchased as needed?
I don't buy a "complete" package, as that would be a waste for me. I pay $33 for each entity and $17 per the first additional state (a little lower price on each additional state, if I am doing multi-state return, $10 I believe). This is much less costly for me than the whole package pricing. Obviously, if you are preparing a ton of out-of-states returns and entity returns, the price quoted to you may be OK.
I'm not trying to butt in, but maybe do a breakdown and see if the $4,675 would be the least expensive way to go or the basic cost, plus the additional costs of pay-per.

ProSystem fx
Unfortunately, many of the higher end products charge a license fee to use pay per return and then a per return and per state charge. Since I need 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 990, etc., even the license fees add up fast. So, Lacerte and UltraTax CS and ProSystem fx end up about the same for the package I need, over $4,000. With the first two, it's priced for unlimited 1040 and per return for the entities; with the latter, it's a total package except for efile charges. If it saves me an assistant that would cost $3-5,000 then it might be worth it. On the down side, that IS the discounted price. So, by the fourth year, I need to refine my mix of returns or have grown the business or be evaluating software again! I was all excited about Drake and their total package, but its diagnostics aren't very thorough. I've still reserved ProSeries Pro and have until December to cancel without paying; however, it's only affordable with pay per return for the entities and because they were offering free efiling this year for early reservations. Have two clients picking up returns Friday and gotta get my own return done this weekend, then I have a one-on-one demo from ProSystem fx the 19th. I have a 990 due 15 November and three corporations that are already late and keep promising to drop their info off. I don't tax season ever really ends!
