Massachusetts extension not filed because believed would be receiving a refund. Now I realize client's son will owe a small amount. Anything I can do now? Any penalties for not filing the extension?
Client's son worked an internship in Massachusetts. His legal resident is WI. Client (attorney) filed federal extension on behalf of son and didn't realize a Massachusetts tax return was due. I just received the information today and I'm showing a small liability with the return. Note this is the first time I knew about the MA income. Last year his summer internship was in WI.
This client is the type that will want to know the affect of this interest & penalty and get them taken care of. Thanks for any guidance as I'm not as familiar with MA returns.
