    WA Employers

    Anyone in WA out there.

Would love to get some quick info for employer set up in WA. Just SUTA and Work.Comp? Any thresholds for Work.Comp. or starting at $1.00 P/R?

    We have
    Suta-AKA: Employment Security
    Disability-AKA: Labor and Industries

Both are from dollar one. However L&I is calculated based on hours not wages. Wages are simply a informational piece that you have to give on the form.

Also for SUTA the max limit is $31,400.00 in wages per person per year .

Corp Officers/ shareholders may elect out of both L&I and Suta coverage.

You can find both websites by doing a google search for Washington State Labor and industries and Washington state Emplyment Security department.

Just a slight correction . . . . corporate officers/shareholders have to elect into state unemployment and Labor & Industries. They are not covered under either without the election to be covered. If you have only the shareholder as an employee, you may want to make the election to be covered under state unemployment in order to keep the FUTA down.

Also workers comp = Labor & Industries. In Washington it is a payroll tax, not covered through private insurance. And the premium is calculated on hours worked, not wages.

maribeth - thanks for the clarification. I was like 85% right. Unfortunately I have not been involved in the bookkeeping department of my firm for many years, I have employees who deal with these issues. maybe it would be best if I brush up a little with them. thanks

Sea-Tax and Maribeth, thank you so much. Another state is like a foreign country, everything is so different, so your comments are highly appreciated.
