Try this on for size. I have a business client that finally got a letter from the IRS for his 2001-2005 personal tax returns. I just finished his 2003-2005 S Corp returns.
Over the last 4-5 months he has been dribbling in the data to complete the S Corps for those years. Since the letter for his personal returns, all he can say is "Are You Done Yet" and I'd say "just about".
Well, I called him this morning and asked, "Are you going to be at the shop today because I want to stop by and have you sign all these returns". "Oh sure I'll be here all day, lets get these babies sent out", he said. I said, "be sure to have your check book available as you will owe the IRS and NYS about $15,000". After a little stammering he said " You know Monday would be better for me".
He knew he was going to owe and my estimate was very close to what we had talked about. BUT some people just can't do a thing without procastinating first.
