    Employer Identification Number (EIN)

A sole proprietor has been doing business and has a EIN (employer identification number) for a few years. Now he opens another store in the same county. Does he needs to apply for another EIN or he can use the same number for both the new store?

The IRS will only issue one EIN per taxpayer. Even if he files several Schedule C's for multiple businesses, he only needs one EIN. A second EIN would be required if he incorporated, or formed a partnership with someone else.
