    Nstp

I learned recently of an organization known as the National Society of Tax Professionals. Can anyone tell me anything about this organization?

Another question - I am an EA in NC. I do taxes but not accounting. I recently joined NATP and i have plans to join NAEA at some point. Are there any other professional organizations I might join in addition to or instead of these? I am still in the trial period with NATP and I could perfectly well get my year's dues back from them and put the money toward another organization.

You will not go wrong with this organization. They sponsor an annual convention eacj

    on, plus their news magazines.
They do have a research dept. where you can a question answered.
Also you cn conact other members in different states for state tax questions.

I've been a member of this organization for over 10 years. They also hold annual tax updates in a variety of cities, special topic seminars, offer research help, cpe credits, e&o insurance, discounts on reference materials, monthly news letter, and much more, all for only an annual membership fee of about $120. Very pleased with this organization.
Here is their website for more information:

Founded in 1985, NSTP is dedicated to promoting the education, interests, and professional development of tax preparers. NSTP members are privy to vibrant programs that enhance their professional growth. Membership will provide you with technical information, updates on tax changes, and professional networking opportunities to help advance your career.

I don't think you would be dissapointed if you joined.

I agree with Bird Legs. The NATP is a stronger organization and provides more scholarly services to the tax professional.
We dont have to be members of several organizations. NATP is first. If you are an accountant yoou should be a member of their prof. organ too; an enrolled agent, the EA's,
and so forth. Dont double up on these for it will be money foolishly spent. The newer person has a tendency to do that.

NAEA only has enrolled agents as members. ALL its resources are directed to advocating for & promoting EAs. Erchess - not sure when you became an EA but there is a 50% discount for first year EAs.

You're already a member of this TaxBook board, but when you join NAEA you also join a fellowship of Ea's across the country with it's own Webboard, where members discuss tax issues (and cuss other issues at times.) It's a great resource for EA's with their own tax practice and most of the time we agree with each other, although at times... well......

Check your private messages, NYEA, and I'll buy you a Coor light next time I see you.

              Another Professional Organization

              There is another professional organization.
National Society of Accountants. (NSA). http://www.nsacct.org
Originally founded in 1945 for state licensed public accountants, it does have members such as yourself that only does tax preparation. The name originally was National Society of Public Accountants, but dropped the "Public" name about 10 years ago when it realized that there are a number of unlicensed accountants around, a good number of them strictly do tax work - no accounting - and wanted to give them an opportunity to join.
They have an educational organization called the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation that grants credentials based on passing a qualifying exam. There was -but I don't know whether it still exits - a waiver of the tax exam if you are already an EA.

I appreciate the input from all of you.

What I carry away from this is that there are more organizations out there than I could ever join and that people seem to be happy in the organizations they have joined. I am minded to stay in NATP, tho I have a couple more weeks before that becomes final. I am definitely not a first year EA but I plan to join NAEA eventually. I most likely will not join any other organizations.

I just had an idea - it would be very cool if all of the organizations held a joint conference. For entertainment there could be a tax knowledge game featuring the best people from each organization. The winning team could receive belts like those given to champion boxers and tv wrestlers.
