Some IRS agents and ex-IRS agents I've known have made complaints about the job.
One of them said they pressured him to keep coming up with big audit assessments.
Another complained that they wanted to use him like a crime-fighter auditing people they couldn't nail any other way.
I spent some time as a State tax auditor. There was never any hostility when I was auditing large companies, but sometimes smaller companies resented it and were very hostile.
One guy I worked with had someone pull a gun on him. He called his headquarters and they told him to go back with a Texas Ranger which he did. The taxpayer decided to cooperate then.
