    Child under 18

    Have a child under 18 that earned $1288 on her investments, and I could report on form 8814.

    Question, I have foreign taxes paid on this account.

    Does this mean I have to file the childs return to claim the foreign tax credit?

      Yes.

      Yes, in order to claim FTC, child must file their own return.

          Wouldn't you always WANT to file the child's return so that you could utilize the standard deduction?
