        Finally found it

I've been looking for a new home since ATX cut off theirs. The links to the other message boards helps. Interesting that ATX eliminated the Forums just before releasing their new prices with built in increase for the bottom end products.

If you could search the ATX forum archives you would see your William was not very nice to me simply because I made a critical comment on the message board regarding the ATX program..not about William. William and I have both had our say with each other a long time ago. I have been and still an ATX Max user since the program was first created and was a member and participant on the ATX message board until it folded.

Good luck with getting Williams help now.

              But you can't

              >If you could search the ATX forum archives<

But you can't. They pulled the plug on all that, too. I knew I should have saved Jainen's classic explanation of how to fill out the form for Section 1031 exchanges. Maybe he'll post it here. Maybe he already has.

William was very good at deleting posts he didn't like. But when a guy from Fresno used an anatomical epithet to describe me, it remained online for months, despite my comments on William's (lack of) oversight. The guy from Fresno apologized. William eventually said he was too busy to catch everything like that.

I wouldn't go quite that far. Besides, I'm sure that little CPA (I told you to watch out for those guys) didn't mean it personally.....hmmm; come to think of it, though; didn't Bees once refer to you as a, umm, you know, what that guy called Georgie -- an atomic episcopalian -- sump'n like that?

Personally I have the highest regard for you Missouri boys, even if you do have dandruff and your jokes are off-key/off-color. But since we're on the subject of character and morals and all, I'm a tad curious. Do you by any chance do RALs?

No, I have NOT had anything to do with that woman...RAL.

Little's post was a bit funny inthat I had not mentioned names, yet (s)he did and (s)he "found it necessary to disparage another on this board"...... me.

I stepped into that one. By the way, I was a FOB (Friend of Bill) at one time (never got to know Ms. Lewinsky), courtesy of my employer extracting a $25 donation to his campaign from me and every other employee in the office (they routinely greased politicians). I got invitations to the inaugural ball as long as he was in office (too far to go for a party, though).

I agree. Littlejohn criticized you for posting asparagus and then followed it up with an oxygenated moron.

P.S. George -- I know these jokes are lame, but we can only give what we have to give (I think that's a quote from Elvis). Anyway, I'm workin' on a press release.

I Too was shocked with the discontinued message

I went online to get to the ATX forum on the 17th and got the same message. I had the same worries you mentioned about what next. I ad been usining ATX MAX for I think 6 years and don't remember them pulling a stunt like this before. I am worried and am going to evaluate other programs before MAX disappears.

When they announce the new "owners" and "no changes in our product" letter came out AFTER the last day the early renewal ran out, I just knew it couldn't last too long. Is there any word on their future? I would love to know before it is too late. I stayed with them because their Ace in the Hole WAS that ATX community. Without that they will be offering the same to customers as everyone else.

Does anyone know anything about TaxSlayer Pro?

Did any one get this message?
Also, why would they discontinue now? This is strange

Next, they might disconutinue software and support without warning?!!
                      Consider switching to........

                        TaxSlayer Pro

Do a search on this Board for TaxSlayer Pro. You will find all kinds of posts relating to this software. I have already renewed after 4 years of continuous use. For the money you cant get software any better.

                          ATX Renewal notice

Got it yesterday. I've been using 1040 Office Package ($605) which included free fed/state e-filing. New basic price is same, but as somebody previously mentioned, they're now charging for e-files: Quote -- "100 Free Rtns $3 FED/$3 STATE."

This time I did 151 e-file, 361 paper. Sooo, assuming same volume: 151 less100 / 51@$6 = $306 price increase. Not too bad as things go nowadays, but supposing IRS mandates all e-filing for us in the near future (not an unlikely scenario), that's 400 returns at six bucks; $2,400 plus the basic $605 for a grand total of $3,005. For that, I could go back to superior Lacerte.

even w/out manditory efile, your paper returns will merge into efiles. you could easily go to atx max for a little under $1000 (with 10% discount), and get all returns, forms, and unlimited efiles. even with the cch screw-up of customer goodwill, atx max looks to be a value for at least one more year.

One more year for the Edsel of the software business

You may be right for 'one more year', but look for the cost to increase, support to decrease and free efiling with MAX to disappear. Also look for separating individual, corporate, partnership and fiduciary returns to separately charged products. Extra fees for state returns is another possibility in their quest to improve the bottom line as the drop the low-volume customers.

A high-volume preparer probably should be using Lacerte or some other higher-cost program, but if they have grown with ATX, the problem of converting to new software and learning how to use it may make ATX a viable option for several more years.

I predict ATX will become the Edsel of the tax software business.

                                Speaking of cars

I bought a new Hyundai a few months ago because a client who deals in used cars says that, model for model and year for year, he would rather have a Hyundai than a pricier Honda. He says the warranties on used Hyundais cost less than those on used Hondas, which tells you something -- either they need repair work less often, or it's less expensive when needed.

ATX is sort of the Hyundai of software, I suppose. Used to be pretty junky, but has shown considerable improvement in recent years. You may be right that it will catch up in price with other software. Does that mean I shouldn't have bought a Beetle in 1971 for under $2,000, because eventually they would be discontinued and then brought back as a pricier item? Of course I should have bought a Plymouth Barracuda in 1971 for $2,500, because recently some models have sold for six and seven figures. But then, who could have seen that Chrysler was going to be bought out by the Germans, just as ATX was bought out by the Dutch? And whether the acquisition will be too much to digest, is something we do not know in either case.

Meanwhile, it took the unofficial ATX Community only four or five posts to come up with a clue about reporting savings-bond interest on a decedent's return. And they didn't even need Jainen to help with settling the dandruff off the top of people's heads.
