    Merchant Marine Engineer

Can a guy who lives in Maine, but travels to NY to work on a Fuel Barge for two weeks, than two weeks off, take his mileage from ME to NY, which is 380 miles one way, as a deduction? Also while on the boat is he allowed to take a Per Diem for each day gone. They give him an allowance for meals of $14.76 a day. They go into different ports to deliver the fuel, such as Portland, ME, Philadelphia, MD, New Jesery, etc., so would I take the per diem for the cities he goes in b/c they're usually there for a whole day? They are considered "Merchant Marriners". Any suggestions would be helpful...

I don't see how the mileage from home (Maine) to job (New York) can be anything except commuting.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".
