    MA Unemployment

I have a client who is in a Union and they work all over the US doing electrical work, he collected Massachusetts unemployment, do you have to file a return in MA for this?

        Here goes

As a non resident of Mass, what I see is that they start with Fed AGI which would include the unemployment. I don't see where Mass excludes UI from gross income. So whether or not the T/P will owe Mass is probably going to depend on his gross income or AGI.

Go to Links on the Message Board, State Links, Mass, then find your way to Non residents

If Maine also taxes the UI then you might be able to use the Other State Tax Credit form (taxed in two states). You can also use the above "Links" for Maine.

        good Luck!

          Ma UE

Ma taxes the portion of unemployment received by a NR that applies to Ma earnings.

MA does tax unemployment so a non resident may owe.

I had such a client once upon a time.

that is until he found another preparer who took both mileage AND depreciation!

            Good riddance.
