    Capital gain distributions

In reviewing a return this morning, I am noticing that capital gain distributions are not carrying to Sch D like they normally would. It is a very small amount.

Besides a glitch in software, shouldn't any amount, regardless of how small the amount, carry over?

    Thank you,

    Dennis

No, there is a box to check on 1040 when you have capital gain distributions that are not required to be reported on schedule D.

I think you can also file form 1040A if you have capital gain distributions that are not from a sale.

      Capital gains

      Jesse,

I looked at the Sch D instructions before I posted, but after your reply, looked at them for the 1040. The two requirements for needing the D do not apply in my situation.

      Thank you,

      Dennis

Thanks, I didn't know that either and I try to make sense out of everything my software does and whould have researched it then and probably not known how to start.
