    Solar Panel Credits

Per TTB, p 11-11 - Max credit per year for cost of qualified solar water heating property is $2,000. Have a client who purchased same for heating swimming pool. Refer to "Other rules" in same section of TTB :
"The cost of swimming pools and other similar property..... do not qualify for credit."

Does this mean that you can get credit for the panels to heat the non-qualified pool? Not sure what "function in addition to energy storage" means

Check out the second page of the instructions for Form 5695, bottom left & top right. "Qualified solar water heating property costs are costs for property to heat water for use in a home . . . " Then: "Costs allocable to a swimming pool . . . or other energy storage medium which has a function other than the function of such storage do not qualify . . ."

I'm reading that to mean that though the pool water does store energy, the main function of the pool water is not to store heated water; that is, it has a function other than energy storage, which I think makes the solar heating property non-qualified.
