    dumb question about deduction

    hello - can previous income tax payments and penalty payments be deducted on the 1040? Guess I'm getting lost in all the data while doing taxes. THNX in advance

      Penalties can never be deducted. Taxes paid always, but only if you talk about state or local taxes.
