    Help on W2

I have a client's daughter again whose employer is doing her W2 wrong. Her total wages on her check stubs is 19.787.85 but he W2 shows a total of 17,931.02. Her employer says they did not include her insurance on her W2. I think latter figure is included in Box 1, but the larger figure should be showon in boxes 3 and 5. I'm not sure where the difference is shown. Should it be in box 12 with a letter or where. I dont do payrolls but feel something is not right. I want to write a letter to my client and then have her do what's she wants to.
This is the second year I know that this has been done that way.

Normally, income that is not considered taxable income in box 1 but is taxable for FICA/Medicare (boxes 3 & 5), is shown in box 12 with a letter code explaning the amount. The employer should issue a corrected W-2.
That's all I have to say ... for now.

Health insurance should not be in box 1, 3 or 5, so the W-2 may be correct.

Thanks Jesse. It's another one of those perks that governemnt gives to special interest groups that have strong lobbies. Seems unbelieveable that you would not pay FICA and Medicare on the benefit of health insurance that is also federally exempt from taxation. My what a complicated system of government we have.
Of course you dont pay now but you pay later in retirement. If you live long enough or if the future holds a bright one for our country. I need to quite belly achin and live one day at a time. I dont drink but I can try and be merrier.
