The Charlotte Observer and Herald newspapers and Charlotte TV channel 4 and 6 reported that a tax preparer in South Carolina discovered an error in the S. C. instructions in the computation of SC1040TC, line 1. David Ward, tax preparer in Fort Mill, S. C. was the first to discover the error. The error was that the instructions asked that the out-of-state tax withholding be added back to the GROSS income of the taxpayer. About 80,000 S. C. residents who worked in N. C. or some other state were affected. The error caused these taxpayer,s tax to increase by about $150. This totals 12 million dollars saved. S. C. posted a correction on it's web site at www.sctax.org and mailed out postcards to explain the correction of the error.

more S. C. error
The error applied to S. C. residents who worked in another state. The error does NOT appear to apply to NON residents of SC as for them there is no schedule TC, instead a SC1040NR is prepared which appears to calculate correctly.Last edited by dyne; 03-19-2007, 01:53 PM.
