    1040 X

Taxpayer filed spouses tax return using turbo-tax. He filed her single when they were
    married during the year.

To amend, I would zero out all info on the 1040 x and attach explanation. Correct?

    Then paper file mfj.

    1040x

That's what I would do. I would mail the return as close to the due date as possible to avoid having it raise red flags. I understand IRS looks at 1040X's after the tax season.

      Did both file S?

If Spouse filed S and Taxpayer has not yet filed: Amend Spouse to include Taxpayer and change status to MFJ. If both have already filed: Amend either one, let's say Taxpayer to include Spouse and change status to MFJ. (In the second case, you actually amended BOTH since one amendment will carry both SS#s. In the first case, you amended one while filing the other.)
