Charitable Deduction and Energy Credit Questions

I have 2 questions. First one. Taxpayer is retired and volunteers her time as a parish nurse. She has about $100 in expenses for classes she took to update her nursing skills. She also has $90 paid for an insurance policy to cover her if someone decides to sue her for her help, and also mileage to a convention for nursing related training. How do I go about deducting any of this as charitable. Can't put it as an unreimbursed employee expense being as she has no employer. She does this solely as a way to help people.

Second one. I read through the 5695 Residential Energy Credit instructions and see where they say "for purposes of figuring the credit, do not include amounts paid for onsite prep, assembly or original installation of the property". Can you include the amounts paid to trim out the windows, or to prime/paint or seal them? Doesn't seem like it would count to me, but I can find anything more about it when searching the IRS site. Client believes it should be part of the credit because "you need to properly trim and seal them or they won't be as efficient". What do you think?

Sch A Charitable contributions, The amounts she spent are cash contributions because they were out of pocket expenses to do volunteer work. As for the mileage it is also a cash contribution figured at the rate of .14 a mile for 2006 and added into cash contributions. This is assuming the parish she volunteers for is a qualified non profit.
