    Deduction for auto

New client - referral from another client. Yea!!! Love referrals. Okay,

She sells Pampered Chef cookware. Her manager told her to purchase decals advertising Pampered Chef with her phone number on it and put them in the windows of her car. They are permanently stuck on the inside of the back windows of her minivan. Her manager said she could write off a portion of her car since the decals are permanently attached.

I have always thought that advertising on your car (such as magnetic signs) are an expense but do not make it possible for you to write off part of your car.

Is this different since they are not something that can come off.

    Business use ..

is determined by the purpose of the trip, not signs on the side. (or inside)

Just ask to see her mileage log so you can write off the business vehicle.

      What percentage

      >>the decals are permanently attached<<

What percentage of the surface of the car is dedicated to this business purpose?

I did take the mileage deduction.

I think that the decals are on the both sides of the van on the larger back windows. I didn't go out and look at it before she left. I guess I should have.

          Decals on Van

Why would you need to see the Decals? You saw what you needed to see and
that was the mileage-total & business. The decals have nothing to do with the
          business operation of the vehicle.
          Have some decals on mine.

This is just another one of those my friend/neighbor/relative said I can deduct this items. Business use of the car determines the deduction of cents per mile or business % of actual. Of course, the decals are deductible as advertising.
